Poland and Finland were deprived of youth world championships in wrestling due to non-issuance of visas
Poland and Finland were deprived of the right to host youth world wrestling championships due to the non-issuance of visas to Russian and Belarusian athletes. This was announced by Match TV President of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili.
Mamiashvili refused to consider the decision political. He drew attention to the fact that, according to the charter and the treaty, sanctions are imposed on countries due to non-fulfillment of obligations.
The World Championship among wrestlers under 20 was to be held in Warsaw from 14 to 20 August. The tournament in the age category under 23 was scheduled in Tampere from 23 to 29 October.
On April 4, the executive committee of the United World Wrestling decided to allow Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments. In a statement, the Federation of Greco-Roman, Freestyle and Women’s Wrestling said that the Russians would compete in a neutral status. It is noted that athletes will be allowed to compete subject to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.
