The IOC explained the process of admitting Russians to the 2024 Olympics

Bach said that the Russians may not get to the 2024 Olympics in case of non-admission by the federations

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach explained the process of admitting Russian athletes to the 2024 Games in Paris. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Bach stated that international federations would have to confirm the status of neutral athletes from Russia. In case of failure to obtain permission from the federation, the athlete will not be able to participate in the Olympics. The head of the IOC added that athletes will also not get to the Games if they do not qualify. He stressed that the committee continues to monitor the situation.

Earlier on July 18, the chairman of the organizing committee of the 2024 Games, Tony Estangue, said that a decision on the participation of the Russians would be made no earlier than September 2023. He stressed that it will be taken into account whether athletes receive permission from sports federations to participate in qualifying competitions.

On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in the starts.

The Olympic Games are to be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
