Gabriel Magalhães, from Arsenal, faces robbers armed with a baseball bat

Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhães, from Arsenal, faced robbers armed with a baseball bat who tried to steal his car, according to a video released by the London Metropolitan Police.

The incident took place on August 20, when the player was returning to his home located in Barnet, north of the capital of England, and was approached by three people as he got out of his vehicle. One of them, Abdi Muse, 26, was armed with a baseball bat.

The thieves demanded that Gabriel give them the keys to the vehicle, but the defender of the English club refused and confronted the bandits, who fled with the keys to the car, which was left in the garage, according to the images. Muse was later arrested and, in early November, was eventually sentenced to five years in prison for theft and possession of a weapon.

“It’s not pleasant to go through this when your family is involved in trying to get back home,” said Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta. “‘Gabby’ showed a lot of personality,” added the coach, specifying that the Brazilian “was fine” after the incident.

It’s not the first time Arsenal players have been robbed. Two individuals attacked Sead Kolasinac and Mesut Ozil to try to steal their watches in Hampstead, northwest London, in 2019. Kolasinac confronted the thieves and managed to get into a car driven by Ozil to flee.
