Mario Fernandez explained that he moved to Zenit because of the unwillingness of CSKA to pay compensation
Defender Mario Fernandez issued a statement after moving to Zenit. His words are reported by “Championship”.
The football player said that in May 2022 he terminated the contract with CSKA, and at the beginning of 2023 he moved as a free agent to the Brazilian Interacional. The new team added a release clause to the agreement if the player is sold to another club.
On April 21, Fernandez left Interacional ahead of schedule for personal reasons and began to negotiate a return to CSKA. The Moscow club declared their unwillingness to pay compensation and offered the player to pay part of the deal from their own funds. “CSKA remained adamant for about two months of contacts, after which it decided to stop negotiations with me,” he said.
On July 17, Zenit announced the signing of a contract with Fernandez. The agreement is designed for one year with the possibility of extension for a season.
