Ovechkin, Datsyuk and Kovalchuk will take part in the farewell match of Danis Zaripov on August 9
Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin will take part in the farewell match of the most titled player in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), Ak Bars forward Danis Zaripov. This was reported on the website of the Kazan club.
The meeting between the Russian national team and Ak Bars will be held on August 9 in Kazan. It will also feature retired strikers Pavel Datsyuk and Ilya Kovalchuk.
Zaripov, 41, announced his retirement on February 24. “No matter how much this moment was delayed, age, sores and other situations did not allow me to gain optimal shape this year. Everything came to what he said: “Danis, stop, that’s enough,” said the athlete.
Zaripov spent 22 years in the KHL. Playing for Ak-Bars, the striker won the Gagarin Cup three times. In addition, he twice became the league champion along with Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
