England defender Harry Maguire announced this Sunday (16) that he is no longer captain of the Manchester Unitedafter talking to coach Erik ten Hag.
Rumors about this possibility started at the beginning of the month, and the main reason would be the little space that Maguire has had in the team since Ten Hag’s arrival at Old Trafford.
The defender has started just eight Premier League games, which has also fueled rumors about his future at the club.
Maguire himself announced on Twitter that he lost his captain’s armband: “After conversations with the coach today, he has informed me that he will change captain”.
“He explained his reasons to me and, although I am personally very disappointed, I will continue to give it my all whenever I wear this shirt,” added the 30-year-old.
Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes was the player who most often wore the captain’s belt in Maguire’s absences last season and is the favorite to officially assume the post.
Harry Maguire has played 170 games for United since joining Leicester in 2019 for €93 million (R$400 million at the time).
The arrival of Argentine defender Lisandro Martínez in July last year has also limited his opportunities in the first team, to the point that a possible departure for West Ham has been speculated.
