In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic showed that he has no good memories of coach Pep Guardiola, currently at Manchester City. According to the Swede, the coach never understood him.
“I wanted to schedule everything I had to do. I wanted to make moves on instinct, but then I thought about what he wanted and changed. So I thought too much. Guardiola doesn’t like players with character. I had become a problem and, as he couldn’t solve it, I solved it by leaving”, he reported.
On top of that, Ibra revealed the unusual importance of Maradona in the direction of his career. According to the Swede, the Argentine’s history inspired him to venture back into Italian football at the age of 38.
According to Ibrahimovic, his initial destination was not Milan, but Napoli. However, the deal did not turn out as the attacker had hoped and, thus, the Rossoneri team was chosen.
“When I saw the documentary about Maradona, I had decided to go to Napoli to win the Scudetto. I was tired of the United States, I even thought about leaving them, but Raiola (his manager) told me: ‘you’re crazy, you have to go back to Italy’. We negotiated everything with Napoli, but soon De Laurentiis (president of the club) fired Ancelotti and everything changed”, explained Ibrahimovic.

“So I asked Mino (Raiola): ‘which is the worst team I can change?’ He replied: ‘yesterday Milan lost 5-0 in Bergamo’, and I said: ‘resolved, let’s go to Milan’”, he concluded.
Currently, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one of Milan’s top names. Recovered from injury, the 40-year-old forward is part of the squad that occupies the second place in the Italian Championship.
