The RFU said that under certain circumstances, the match against Brazil will be played
Maxim Mitrofanov, Secretary General of the Russian Football Union (RFU), spoke about a possible match against Brazil. His words are quoted by Sport24.
Mitrofanov noted that at the moment there is no such possibility, but negotiations are underway with the Brazilian side. “I think under certain circumstances the match will be held. Most likely as early as next year. It depends on many circumstances and not only temporary ones,” he added.
Earlier, the Secretary General of the RFU assessed the likelihood of a match between the national team and the Medialiga team. “Someone can do shows, but we are engaged in sports of the highest achievements,” Mitrofanov said and confirmed the decision of the head coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin not to take part in such matches.
On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. The teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team has lost the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
