The 13th stage of the 2023 Tour de France the friday july 14, and it’s an important day for the race. The day starts in Chatillon-sur-Chalaronne and will end in Grand Colombierafter a dispute relatively short stage, 137.8 kilometers, in which the favorites are expected to take advantage to make significant differences. The race starts at 1:45 p.m.and is expected to end around 5:22 p.m.
The Tour de France had never before visited Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne, a town 50 kilometers north of Lyon. The goal will be at the top of the Grand Colombier, a port that was climbed for the first time in the 2012 edition. This will be the fifth time it has been climbed and the second in which the stage ends on its top.
The route will be somewhat less demanding than other times. It begins with the ascent to the Lèbe observatory, a long climb, but with a slight gradient -16.4 kilometers, at 3%-, before descending to Artemare. Then come 10 kilometers of flat, before the final climb, which begins in Culoz. As in 2020, the last year that the Grand Colombier was climbed, the final ascent has about 17.4 kilometers at a 7.4% gradient. In the final 3.4 kilometers, the gradient becomes steeper, reaching 9.2%.
The first three riders to finish will get bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
