Matytsin called discrimination the refusal of the IOC to invite Russia to the Olympic Games-2024 on a set date
Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin praised the refusal of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to invite the national teams of Russia and Belarus to the 2024 Olympic Games (OI-2024) on the set date. His words are reported by TASS.
Matytsin called the decision discrimination and a violation of the principles of Olympism. “This is done without taking into account the qualifying competition, the rules in the absence of rules. We made a decision without taking into account these qualifying competitions, and it is not clear when they will invite, ”he stressed.
Earlier it became known that on July 26, 2023, the IOC will send out invitations to the Games to the National Olympic Committees (NOCs). It was noted that Russia, Belarus and Guatemala, suspended since September 2022, will not receive letters.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in the starts.
The Olympic Games are to be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
