Former Dutch goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, victim of a cerebral hemorrhage last Friday, is out of danger, despite being hospitalized. The information was released by Ajax on Tuesday.
“Edwin is still in the intensive care unit but his condition is stable. His life is no longer in danger,” the Dutch team said in a statement sent at the request of Annemarie Van der Sar, wife of the former player.
“Every time we visit him, he manages to communicate. It takes patience and seeing the evolution of his condition”, added the note published by the Amsterdam club.

Idol of Ajax and Manchester UnitedVan der Sar, 52, was on vacation on an island in Croatia when he started to feel unwell.
In May, the former goalkeeper resigned as general manager of the Ajaxwhich they have held since 2016, after the club’s worst season in 14 years, finishing third in the Dutch league behind rivals Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven.
Considered one of the best goalkeepers of his generation, Van der Sar defended Ajax’s goal between 1990 and 1999, being part of the squad that won the Champions League em 1995.
Then passed by Juventus (1999-2001) and Fulham (2001-2005), before moving to Manchester United, where he stayed from 2005 to 2011. During his time at the English club, he won another Champions League, in 2008.
For the Netherlands national team, Edwin Van der Sar played 130 games and was a starter in two World Cups: first in France, in 1998, and then in Germany, in 2006.
