Napoli owner De Laurentiis wants to keep team stars

The stars of Napoli Victor Osimhen and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, much coveted by big teams, will stay in the Italian team, insisted this Tuesday Aurelio De Laurentiis, owner of the club. The manager assured that there is no need to sell them, at a time when the Italian champions are preparing to fight for the second Serie A title.

Nigerian striker Osimhen was involved in transfer talks after scoring 31 goals last season as Napoli won the Italian Championship for the first time in 33 years.

In an interview with AFP, De Laurentiis, 74, said he had not received any concrete offers for the striker, whose market value he assesses at 150 million euros (R$ 802 million at current prices).

Last month, the manager revealed that Osimhen had already given his word to renew his two-year contract until 2027, while Georgian Kvaratskhelia would be willing to accept double his current salary of 1.2 million euros a year (R$ 6.42 million) to stay on the team, where he exploded in his first season.

During the official unveiling of Napoli’s new shirt on Monday, the owner of the Italian club assured journalists that Osimhen would wear the kit next season unless there was a “more than indecent offer”.

“First of all, Osimhen has two more years on his contract and Kvaratskhelia four. So we can keep talking about contract renewals and try to satisfy the voracious appetite of his agents, but the truth is that it is up to Napoli to decide what to do,” said De Laurentiis.

However, the owner of the Naples team knows that, at a certain level, it cannot compete with other clubs in Europe, whose financial power is almost limitless.

The team will still lose the South Korean defender Kim Min-jae, who is about to transfer to the Bayern Munchenfor around 60 million euros (R$ 321 million).

The manager is confident that, despite the changes, Napoli will again have a strong squad to start their campaign for the second title on their visit to promoted Frosinone in August, even if another big name leaves the club.

“Our objectives have not changed: we have to win, win, win and win as much as possible. But we’ll see, there are so many parameters, we don’t know how other clubs will strengthen their teams”, concluded De Laurentiis.
