South Korea will require the IOC to double-check the doping test of figure skater Sotnikova from the 2014 Olympics
The South Korean Olympic Committee (KSOC) will appeal to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) over the doping testing of Russian figure skater Adelina Sotnikova at the 2014 Games. It is reported by Yonhap News Agency.
KSOC will require Sotnikova’s doping test to be rechecked. “She herself said that she tested positive in the A sample, but negative in the B sample. This is an extremely rare case that requires re-investigation,” the organization said and added that testing technologies have improved, so you can now find something in the samples that was undetectable in the past.
Earlier, Sotnikova, in an interview with the Tatarka FM YouTube channel, said that after the Olympics, she learned about the discovery of doping in her sample. “Remembering 2014, after some time they said that they found doping in me, but then they acquitted me, because they opened the second sample, and everything was fine with me,” she said. Later, this fragment of the interview was removed from the channel.
At the Games in Sochi, Sotnikova won the gold medal in single skating, leaving Korean Yuna Kim with silver. The Russian woman also has two silver medals of the European Championship. In March 2020, the figure skater completed her career.
