Initially, Lazio, from italian football, would be Barcelona’s rival team in the friendly tournament. However, the negotiations, which were almost completed, broke down. Thus, the Catalan club had to go for another option.
Barcelona, then, would have decided to send an invitation to Tottenham. This is because the two clubs would be in constant contact due to the situation of French defender Clément Lenglet, who was loaned by the Spanish team to the English team last season.
Barça will make their official debut in the 23/24 season against Getafe, away from home, in a game valid for the first round of the Spanish Championship.
