Barcelona’s debut in the Spanish Championship will be behind closed doors; understand

The debut match of Barcelona no Spanish Championship 2023/24 against Getafe, on August 12, away from home, will have closed doors for both fans.

According to the newspaper Sportthe home club was punished by the Superior Federal Court of Spain for a game in June 2017, when the Madrid team beat Tenerife, in a match that was worth access to the first division of LaLiga.

At the time, at the Coliseu Alfonso Pérez Stadium, Getafe fans celebrated the victory with flares, bombs and pitch invasion, after the final whistle. Meanwhile, the visiting crowd protested against the defeat by throwing seats towards sectors where the home team were.

In view of the events, despite having already paid a fine of seven thousand euros (R$ 37 thousand), Getafe will also suffer the closing of the gates of its stadium in the debut in the Spanish Championship as a second sanction. And it will be fulfilled against Barça.

Barcelona kicked off pre-season work this Monday. The players and coach Xavi, along with his team, returned to the Joan Gamper Sports City. In a few days, the Spanish club will travel to the United States for the US Tour, which will feature four friendlies: against Juventusin San Francisco, the Arsenalin Los Angeles, or Real Madridin Dallas, and finally, the Milanin Las Vegas.
