Three-time champion of Russia in figure skating Mikhail Kolyada suspended his career
Three-time champion of Russia in men’s singles Mikhail Kolyada decided to suspend his sports career. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the Director General of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Alexander Kogan.
The functionary added that he regrets what happened, as he considers Kolyada a talented athlete. The reasons for the decision of the 28-year-old skater are not reported.
In the 2022/23 season, Kolyada took third place at the Russian Grand Prix in Moscow and won the N.A. Panin-Kolomenkin. In addition to three victories at the Russian Championship, Kolyada has a silver medal at the 2018 Olympic Games in the team tournament, a bronze medal at the World Championship and two bronze medals at the European Championships.
On March 1, 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) banned Russians from participating in competitions under its auspices. Due to sanctions, athletes were unable to take part in the World and European Championships, as well as in the Grand Prix series.
