Wholesale LPG may be sold for domestic use due to shortages due to abnormal waves

He Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) implemented measures to guarantee the national supply of LPG, which has been affected by abnormal waves that make it impossible for the normal development of fuel loading and unloading activities from tankers in the main terminals, such as the Multibuoy Terminal.

Through Ministerial Resolution No. 272-2023-MINEM/DM, Minem exempted the Obligation of LPG marketing agents for Packaging established in the First Final Complementary Provision of Supreme Decree No. 023-2021-EM; with the aim of exceptionally allowing the use of bulk LPG (GLP-G) as bottled LPG (GLP-E).

This measure has been established for the next five calendar days, the date on which the regularization of the LPG supply is estimated.

“In this way, it seeks to contribute to the normal development of the activities of commercialization and supply of LPG-E, used for the most part in household activities and the transport of people,” the ministry said in a statement.

In addition to this, through the General Directorate of Hydrocarbons (DGH) of Minem, the use of minimum stocks of this fuel has been authorized for companies.

For this purpose, it has been coordinated with the agents obliged to comply with stocks to carry out the necessary logistical operations that facilitate the supply of the market.

Minem: massification of natural gas

It is important to remember that the Minem has been executing necessary actions to promote the mass use of vehicular natural gas (NGV), which constitutes an alternative to vehicular LPG, as it is the cheapest and least polluting fuel.

For this reason, the GNV Savings program, which provides financing of S/4,000 for up to three years without interest, plus a S/2,000 discount bonus for those vehicles that are using LPG.

“Minem will continue to carry out all the necessary actions for the adequate development of the hydrocarbon industry, as well as guarantee the continuous supply of fuels and with it energy security in the country, in accordance with the National Energy Policy of Peru”, referred to the institution.
