Russian Andreeva did not shake hands with the judge after a penalty in the 1/8 final match at Wimbledon 2023
Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva refused to shake hands with the referee after losing a match at Wimbledon 2023. This is reported by the correspondent of “Lenta.ru”.
In the final game of the third set, Andreeva received a penalty point for throwing a racket. The Russian woman tried to explain to the referee that she fell on the court and therefore dropped her racket, that is, she did not do it on purpose. However, her arguments were not accepted, and punishment followed, since during the tie-break in the second set she was given a warning.
On July 10, 16-year-old Andreeva lost to American Madison Keys in the 1/8 final match of the tournament. The meeting ended with the score 6:3, 6:7 (4:7), 2:6.
On March 31, the UK Lawn Tennis Association, which organizes Wimbledon, allowed Russian and Belarusian tennis players who signed a “declaration of neutrality” to participate in the 2023 tournament. Later, information appeared that the athletes agreed to this condition.
