German boxer born in Sakhalin remembered his childhood in Russia

German boxer Mikhel said that his childhood spent on Sakhalin tempered his character

German boxer Serge Michel, who made his debut in the Top Dog promotion, remembered his childhood spent in Russia. He spoke about this in an interview with Lenta.ru.

According to him, he was born on Sakhalin and lived there until the age of six, when his family decided to leave for Germany. “My paternal grandfather is a German, was a prisoner of war, spent 11 years in camps and subsequently ended up on Sakhalin. As far as I know, he was not allowed to leave the island, he received such permission only in the late 1980s, ”Mikhel said.

As the boxer notes, in the 1990s, life on Sakhalin, as in all of Russia, was difficult. “I don’t remember much, but I’m proud that I was born there. This place with a harsh climate tempered my character. I am sure that the experience of living in Russia helps me not to give up, work hard and not be afraid to take on the most unexpected challenges,” he concluded.

Michel started boxing already in Germany. He subsequently represented the country at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He has 18 fights in professional boxing, in which he won 15 victories and suffered three losses.

On June 23, Mikhel made his debut in fisticuffs in the Russian promotion Top Dog. In the fight, which took place in Moscow, the boxer defeated Naim Davudov, who is the middleweight champion of the organization. Michel won by TKO in the fifth round.
