A Italian Football Federation (FIGC) confirmed this Friday the holding of an extra game to decide the champion of Serie A if two teams finish tied on points in the leaderboard.
This rule, introduced last year and which established a game on neutral ground, now stipulates that the tiebreaker game will be at the home of the team that is ahead according to certain criteria.
The regulation of Italian Championship establishes the classification according to the points. Next, the direct confrontation, the overall goal difference and, finally, the number of goals scored.

The game could also be played in the stadium that hosts the Coppa Italia final – like the Stadio Olimpico in Rome in recent years – if the authorities deem it necessary due to possible public order incidents.
The repechage for remaining in the elite, also introduced last season and involving the teams that finish in the 17th and 18th positions, will be played in a knockout, with the return game at the home of the best classified.
In the last season of Italian football, Hellas Verona, which was in 18th place, managed to remain in the first division by defeating Spezia (17th) away from home, in a single game, by the score of 3 to 1.
