Lula approves of Diniz, but questions Ancelotti’s arrival in the Brazilian national team

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva spoke this Thursday about the latest news from the Brazilian Team aiming at preparing for the 2026 World Cup. In an interview with SBT, he highlighted that he was satisfied with the choice of Fernando Diniz as interim coach of the five-time world champion team.

“I’m a fan of Diniz, I like his creativity and personality. It’s a good chance and I understand he’s going to take advantage of it,” said Lula, a fanatic Diniz supporter. Corinthians. “Diniz is in charge of the locker room. In football, a coach has to be in charge of the locker room for it to work”, he amended.

On the other hand, Lula demonstrates doubts with the decision of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) to pass the position of coach of the Selection to Carlo Ancelotti from the middle of 2024. The Italian would take over after the end of the current contract with Real Madrid, from Spain.

“He was never the coach of Italy. Why doesn’t he solve the problem of Italy, which didn’t even play the last World Cup?”, questioned the Brazilian president.

Finally, Lula believes that Brazil has suffered from a worrying drop in the quality of its players in recent years, which is reflected in failures in World Cups. The national team has not won the title of the competition since 2002.

“The problem is not Diniz, but we don’t have the quality of players from other times. We are in an off-season. The boys leave the country at 16, 17 years old and come back at 36, retired,” said Lula.
