FINA approved the world records of Russian swimmers Evgenia Chikunova and Kliment Kolesnikov
The International Aquatics Federation (FINA) has approved the world records of Russian swimmers Evgenia Chikunova and Kliment Kolesnikov. The data has been updated on the organization’s website.
Chikunova, 18, set a new world record on April 21 at the Russian Championships in Kazan. She swam the 200 meters in 2 minutes and 17.55 seconds. The previous result was 2 minutes and 18.95 seconds and was set by Tatiana Schoonmaker from South Africa at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
22-year-old Kolesnikov set a world record in the 50-meter backstroke – 22.11 seconds. This happened on November 23, 2022 at the Russian Short Course Championship in Kazan. Previously, the record belonged to the Frenchman Florent Manod (22.22 seconds).
In April 2022, FINA banned Russians from participating in competitions under its auspices. In February 2023, the organization announced the transfer of the 2025 FINA World Championships from Russia.
