PSG announces Luis Enrique as new coach

O Paris Saint Germain announced this Wednesday (5) the hiring of Spaniard Luis Enrique as the new coach, to take over the team in place of Christophe Galtier, whose departure from the club was made official hours before.

“It represents a new cycle, a new way of playing, with one of the best coaches in the world, not because of what he has achieved, but because of his attacking style of football,” PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi told reporters during a press conference. next to Luis Enrique in the CT of the club.

The Spaniard will be the team’s eighth coach since the Catari QSI fund (Qatar Sports Investments) bought the club in 2011.

“I can guarantee that we will work as a team”, promised Luis Enrique, who hopes to “get titles” in the Parisian team.

The coach has been free on the market since December, when he was sacked as Spain’s national team coach, eliminated by Morocco in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup.

He takes PSG’s place in Galtier, criticized for the uninspired football presented by the team last season, which even ended with the title of the French Championship, but with a new stumbling block in the Champions League, the club’s main objective.

As a coach, Luis Enrique has worked for Roma (2011-2012), Celta de Vigo (2013-2014) and Barcelona (2014-2017).

In the Catalan team, he won the Champions League in 2015, the same year he was Spanish champion and Copa del Rey champion.

He was Barça’s coach in the historic 6-1 thrashing of PSG in the Champions League round of 16 in 2017, with the ‘blaugrana’ achieving a comeback at the Camp Nou after losing the first leg 4-0 in Paris.
