Seven Russian fencers entered the World Championships as individual neutral athletes

Seven Russian fencers have signed up for the 2023 World Championships. It is reported by TASS.

The tournament will be held in Milan from 22 to 30 July. The fencers will compete as individual neutral athletes. The list of participants includes Yana Bekmurzova, Polina Khaertdinova, Vadim Anokhin, Artem Sargsyan, Alena Lisina, Anna Smirnova and Leyla Pirieva.

On July 1, it became known that several Russian fencers who had left the country would take part in the US Championship. According to the Inside The Games portal, Sergey Bida, Violetta Khrapina, Oleg Knysh and Konstantin Lokhanov, who is the ex-husband of two-time Olympic champion Sofia Pozdnyakova, are admitted to the tournament.

In March, the European Fencing Confederation allowed Russian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. However, the organization later denied entry to many athletes, including Olympic champions Yana Yegoryan, Sofia Velikaya, Sofia Pozdnyakova and Olga Nikitina.
