Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has allowed women to attend men’s football matches for the first time in 44 years. It is reported by ISNA.

“A working group has been set up to decide how to implement this,” said the head of the Iranian Football Federation, Mehdi Taj. He added that a radio dedicated to women’s sports will also be created in the country.

Taj noted that girls will be admitted to four arenas in various provinces of the country: Gol Goukhar in the city of Sirjan, Naqsh-e Jahan and Fulad Shehr in Isfahan and Gyadir in Ahvaz. The Azadi stadium in Tehran will also be prepared soon.

Women were banned from attending games in which men take part after the Islamic Revolution in 1979. In some cases, they were unofficially allowed into the stadiums, for example, at the friendly match between Russia and Iran on March 23 (1:1).
