The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are changing tactics on the battlefield during the counteroffensive. The Wall Street Journal writes about this with reference to the Ukrainian military.
The newspaper writes that “Ukrainian troops did not even approach the defensive structures built by the Russians, including anti-tank trenches and other barriers, about 16 km behind the front line.” At the same time, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stopped sending large infantry units and Western tanks into battle.
According to media reports, now the Armed Forces of Ukraine are relying on pinpoint strikes.
Earlier, the newspaper also wrote that the Russian Armed Forces built at least three defensive lines, consisting of trenches dug by tractors and reinforced with concrete, shelters for armored vehicles.
On the eve of the NYT noted that during the preparations for the counter-offensive of Ukraine, the Russian Armed Forces improved discipline, coordination of actions and air support. Russian armored columns no longer enter areas where they can be quickly damaged or destroyed, troops are more likely to use drones and undertake “probing attacks,” the publication cited examples. The media wrote that the Ukrainian forces that launched their counteroffensive were well armed thanks to the supply of Western weapons, but Moscow “improved its defense, artillery coordination and air support.”
