Through a letter, the 24-year-old German athlete named the Blues as your second home. Still, he recalled the titles he won during the three years at the club and thanked the professionals who were part of his trajectory.
“Today, I find myself at a crossroads, where words cannot describe the emotions I am feeling. It pains my heart to write this letter, saying goodbye to the club that has become my second home. Also to the incredible fans who supported me during this incredible event. Together we experience the ups and downs, the joys and sorrows. I want to thank all Chelsea fans, staff members, coaches and my teammates for these last few years. Arriving at Chelsea three years ago was a huge moment in my life and I look back on it with nothing but pride, gratitude and great success.”
“Since conquering Champions League in my first season, until I won the Supercup and Club World Cup and now say goodbye. It was quite a journey that I will never forget. Every second at Chelsea made me understand what it means to represent this club on and off the pitch and I hope everyone remembers me for that. I will cherish memories that will last a lifetime. The club will forever be in my heart and I have made friends for life. It was an honor to be part of Chelsea history. Thank you, Kai,” he concluded.
Dear @ChelseaFC,
I would have preferred for you to hear my thoughts on leaving Chelsea first from myself before my thoughts on me joining my new team. This isn’t my style and it upsets me that you had to hear of it in this way.
