Croatian Kovacic leaves Chelsea and signs for Manchester City

A versatile midfielder with 95 caps to his credit for Croatia, Kovacic was a priority for City. “Signing him was not a difficult decision because he has the tactical and technical qualities we look for in a midfielder,” said the Manchester club’s director of football Txiki Begiristain.

With Chelsea, where he played for five years, Kovacic won the 2021 Champions League and the 2019 Europa League. He has four Champions League titles in total, three with Real Madrid and one with Chelsea.

“He’s a fantastic signing for me and I’m looking forward to starting with City,” said Kovacic. “Anyone who has seen this club play under Pep Guardiola knows how good they are,” he enthused.
