Coach Pia Sundhage announced this Tuesday the list of 23 players who will represent the Brazil already Women’s World Cup in July and August in Australia and New Zealand. The main name in the history of the women’s national team, Marta, will once again be present at the World Cup and will compete in its sixth edition of the World Cup.
However, at the age of 37, Marta is not the same player as before and has lost a bit of space in the national team lately. Pia commented on the importance of the veteran striker in the squad, but lost track of his condition as a starter.
“Marta is the Queen, Marta is the icon. Just being around her is contagious. She’s generous and she has a lot of energy. I’ve said in some interviews that in one part of the game – in the final pass – she’s the best. Just being with her and playing with her, I think that’s important. Will she start? I don’t know, not yet. And the best part of it is that she’ll play whatever role I give her, I’m sure of that.” , commented.
Now it’s for real! 🇧🇷

The Swedish coach also spoke about Marta’s game and how it has changed in the current scenario of women’s football. In addition, Pia ensured that the player is physically well and that the doubt regarding her title is not for physical reasons.
“I coached her in 2008 and she was brilliant. She doesn’t dominate the game today like she did, for two reasons: She’s older and less fast and the development of women’s football is so fast now, so we have a lot of good players. I I think it would be difficult for any player to dominate the game in the way that Marta did over ten years ago. But she’s in shape, she’s fine”, he analysed.
Brazil debuts in the Women’s World Cup on July 24, against Panama, at 8 am (Brasília time), in Adelaide.
