It is the seventh time that Messi is voted the best player in the world, being even more isolated from Cristiano Ronaldo, who won the award five times. The Argentine’s other six trophies were won in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2019.
In the 2020/2021 season, Lionel Messi played 60 games, for Barcelona and Argentina, and scored 44 goals and 17 assists. In 2021/2022, this time with Paris Saint-Germain, the ace scored eight goals and contributed three assists in 18 games.
It is worth mentioning tributes to Maradona, who died in November 2020, and Gerd Muller, who died in August of this year. Videos of Messi, for the Argentine legend, and Lewandowski, for the German idol, were shown.
