The Washington Post: “Washington” with captain Ovechkin may move to Virginia
The National Hockey League (NHL) Washington Capitals may move to another state. This became known to The Washington Post.
Team owner Monumental Sports & Entertainment is in talks with Virginia officials, the source said. It is noted that both the hockey and basketball teams “Washington Wizards” and “Washington Mystics”, also owned by the holding, can move to Northern Virginia.
Three Russian hockey players play for Washington. The team includes defender Alexander Alekseev, as well as forwards Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alexander Ovechkin, who is the captain.
In the 2022/2023 season, the capital club failed to reach the NHL playoffs. The team did not play at this stage of the tournament for the first time since 2014.
