Honorary head of the NOC of Armenia Gabrielyan said that the position of the IOC on the Russians can be changed
Honorary President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Armenia Derenik Gabrielyan appealed to the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach with a request because of the Russian athletes. His words are quoted by TASS.
Gabrielyan said that the position of the IOC on sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes should be changed. He stressed that sport can be outside of politics. “If there is a disease, then there is a cure. I am convinced that the main means is peace on earth,” summed up the honorary head of the NOC of Armenia.
On September 28, the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation (JJIF) allowed Russian athletes to participate in competitions under its auspices in a neutral status. It was noted that the decision is aimed at avoiding punishment of athletes for the actions of the authorities.
At the end of February, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC. In some disciplines, such as motorsport, cycling, tennis and chess, Russians continue to compete without a flag.
