The Bosnian Football Association (NSBiH) announced the resignation of coach Faruk Hadzibegic as head of the country’s national team this Friday. The decision was taken after the poor results in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, especially the 2-0 home defeat by Luxembourg three days ago.
This stumbling block keeps Bosnia away from next year’s continental tournament, which will be played in Germany.
The Bosnian team occupies fifth place in Group J of the Qualifiers with three points from four games. The leader is Portugal, with 12 points, followed by Slovakia, with ten.
According to the NSBiH statement, the departure of Hadzibegic, who had taken office in January, was decided by “common agreement”.
Since becoming independent in 1992, Bosnia has managed to qualify for a major tournament only once, at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where the team was eliminated in the group stage.
