The captain of the Russian boxing team said that the team will not compete without a flag and an anthem
The captain of the Russian boxing team, Muslim Gadzhimagomedov, spoke about the team’s refusal to compete without a flag and an anthem. His words are quoted by TASS.
Gadzhimagomedov expressed his disagreement with the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). “We will box, we want to box, but only on a par with other countries. So that there is justice, so that we are not limited, so that we are not told that we must sign some kind of agreements, ”he said and stressed that in the current conditions the team does not want to play.
On June 22, IOC Director General Christophe de Koepper announced that the organization had made the decision to withdraw recognition from the International Boxing Association (IBA). He called the association’s policy a complete disrespect for the principles of international sport. Earlier, the IBA refused to follow the recommendations of the IOC to deprive the athletes of Russia and Belarus of national flags and anthems, the athletes competed in tournaments without restrictions.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from these countries associated with the armed forces or security agencies are recommended to be suspended from participating in starts.
