Russian hockey players were not inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 2023
The National Hockey League (NHL) has announced the list of players who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023. This is reported in Twitter Frank Seravalli.
Among the nominees were four Russian hockey players – Sergei Gonchar, Alexander Maltsev, Boris Mikhailov and Alexander Mogilny, but none of them made it to the final list. New York Rangers goaltenders Henrik Lundqvist, Calgary Flames goaltenders Mike Vernon and Pittsburgh Penguins Tom Barrasso, as well as forward Pierre Tarjon were inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Gonchar won the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2008/2009 season. He also has silver and bronze medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships. Maltsev is a two-time Olympic champion and a nine-time world champion. He spent most of his career at Dynamo Moscow, with whom he repeatedly won the USSR Championship.
Mikhailov was the captain of the USSR national hockey team from 1972 to 1980, became a two-time Olympic champion and an eight-time world champion. At the club level, he played for Kristall, Lokomotiv and CSKA, with whom he won the USSR Championship and the European Cup ten times. In 2000, he was included in the Hall of Fame of the International Ice Hockey Federation.
Mogilny played in the NHL for 17 years. In 2000, he won the Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils. Together with the USSR national team, he became the Olympic champion and the winner of the World Cup.
