Rapinoe, Morgan lead U.S. Women’s World Cup squad

Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe lead the list of summoned by the USA for your participation in Women’s World Cupwhich will be played next month in Australia and New Zealand.

Morgan, 33 years old, and Rapinoe, 37 years old, as well as defender Kelley O’Hara, 34 years old, will compete in their fourth World Cup, this time in Oceania, where their team will fight for their fifth championship and third consecutive title.

The three players stand out among the nine veteran 2019 world champions who make up coach Vlatko Andonovski’s 23-man squad.

Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher and midfielder Julie Ertz, also experienced, will compete in their third consecutive World Cup.

“The task of selecting a team for the World Cup is never easy, but I am proud of the players for their work ethic and focus during the process, and of our coaching staff for working to put together the best team possible,” said Andonovski.

The coach highlighted the journey of his players until they reached the Cup and summed up: “our cast has incredible stories and we have a good mix of veterans and young people”.

The United States’ preparation for the World Cup was hampered by a series of injuries. Captain Becky Sauerbrunn was cut from Worlds last week, as were Catarina Macario and Mallory Swanson.

The United States, who won the 1991, 1999, 2015 and 2019 editions, will make their World Cup debut on July 22 against Vietnam in Auckland.
