Since his arrest in January of this year, Daniel Alves had not given any interview regarding the accusation of rape in a nightclub in Barcelona, Spain. This Wednesday, the player commented on what happened and sent a message to the alleged victim.
“I forgive her. I still don’t know why she did all this, but I forgive her. And I wanted to apologize to the only person I have to apologize to, who is my wife, Joana Sanz. The woman I married eight years ago , I’m still married and I hope to live with her all my life”, declared Daniel Alves to the newspaper La Vanguardia.
Last week, the Justice of Catalonia rejected the latest appeal of freedom presented by the defense of the Brazilian player and maintained preventive detention. The magistrates claimed that “the evidence of criminality is sufficient to impute the fact to him” and that the “risk of fleeing remains”.
In a report to the Spanish vehicle, Daniel Alves gave details about what happened in the early hours of December 31, 2022, when a 23-year-old accused the athlete of rape in the bathroom of a nightclub in Barcelona.
“I decided to give this interview, my first since I’ve been here, so that people know what I think. That they know the story for what I experienced that morning in that bathroom. So far, a very scary story of fear and terror has been told, which it has nothing to do with what happened, nor with what I did. Everything that happened and didn’t happen in there, only she and I know”, added the Brazilian.
Daniel Alves’ defense lawyers already presented different versions of the case to the court. Initially, the player denied sexual relations with the alleged rape victim, but later admitted that they were consensual.
“When the woman I have a problem with comes out of the bathroom behind me, I stay at my desk for a while. When I left, I knew from the footage I passed near where the woman was crying. I didn’t see her. If I had seen her cry, I would have stopped to ask what was going on. At that moment, if someone in charge of the disco asked me to wait because the young woman claimed that I had sexually assaulted her, I would not go home. That same night I would appear at a police station to clarify”, he completed Daniel Alves.
