Gonchar, Maltsev, Mikhailov and Mogilny became candidates for inclusion in the Hockey Hall of Fame

Four Russians have become candidates for inclusion in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2023. This was reported on the website of the National Hockey League (NHL).

The list includes Sergey Gonchar, Alexander Maltsev, Boris Mikhailov and Alexander Mogilny. The voting of the selection committee of 18 people will take place on Wednesday, June 21. To be inducted into the Hall of Fame, a candidate must receive more than 75 percent of the vote. There will be four players in total.

Gonchar won the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2008/2009 season. He also has silver and bronze medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships. Maltsev is a two-time Olympic champion and a nine-time world champion. He spent most of his career at Dynamo Moscow, with whom he repeatedly won the USSR Championship.

Mikhailov was the captain of the USSR national hockey team from 1972 to 1980, became a two-time Olympic champion and an eight-time world champion. At the club level, he played for Crystal, Lokomotiv and CSKA, with whom he won the USSR Championship and the European Cup ten times. In 2000, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

Mogilny played in the NHL for 17 years. In 2000, he won the Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils. Together with the USSR national team, he became the Olympic champion and the winner of the World Cup.
