The European Union will provide Ukraine with financial assistance in the amount of 50 billion euros. The money will be allocated in the form of grants, preferential loans and guarantees, Bloomberg reports, citing unnamed sources.

According to media reports, the funds will be used to cover the current expenses of the Ukrainian authorities, including the payment of salaries and pensions, as well as for “urgent recovery.” The EU plans to raise the required amount through contributions from member states, without resorting to borrowing in the markets, the newspaper notes.

Earlier, the European Union reported that during the year the EU allocated almost 20 billion euros of financial assistance to Ukraine. For 2023, the union agreed on the allocation of 18 billion euros.

The new aid package will be provided in exchange for actions to strengthen the rule of law and fight corruption – these are one of the conditions for joining the EU, the media specifies. So far, Ukraine has met two of the seven conditions to start membership talks, Reuters writes. It is clarified that the fulfilled conditions relate to judicial reform and media law. Other conditions include the reform of the Constitutional Court and law enforcement agencies, the fight against corruption, money laundering and oligarchs, and the protection of the rights of national minorities.

Recall that Ukraine applied for EU membership at the end of February last year. She received candidate status a year ago.
