Radio City night races, a tradition for music and sports fans

Music, friends, sports and the soft lights of the city light the way. The night races organized by radio city, Baptized as Rock+Run, for many years they became the meeting point for 89.3 FM listeners who wanted to spend a fun evening walk steadily through the city. Winning didn’t matter, just having fun.

And no matter how far you ran or where you finished, your reward would be a great musical event led by prominent local musicians. The last edition, the eighth of Rock+Run, took place in 2019, just before the COVID-19 pandemic.

That year the competition was designed under the motto Rock your bodyand featured a fun warm-up preview for the participants in charge of the station’s talents and their programs, Caffeine, no heels or tie And The classic.

Music, another essential part of the race, was reinforced each edition with the invited artists to the main stage, including Sunshine and the Makenzi Sound, Cadaver Exquisite, Los Survivientes, La Chicha Power and Armada de Juguete.

The names of the categories were too cool. Depending on their age, each participant can register for: party rockers (16-29), rockers of all time (30-39), Rock stars (49-49), Always young (50-59) and Old but gold (60 and beyond).

Although the runners’ route was regularly changed for the runners’ comfort and safety, in the first editions the meeting point was the esplanade of the Cinemalecón (Malecón and Loja), although more recent The departure was at Plaza Baquerizo Moreno (Av. 9 de Octubre and Tungurahua) and the route also included the Zig Zag Bridge.
