O Barcelona announced, this Monday (19), the signing of defender Mikayil Faye, considered one of the jewels of Senegal. The deal was closed with NK Kustosija Zagreb, from Croatia, for 1.5 million euros (about R$ 7.8 million). The contract is valid until June 2027 and has a termination fine set at 400 million euros (about R$ 2.1 billion).
The 18-year-old defender underwent medical examinations and has already visited the Catalan club’s facilities, with only the official signing of the new bond remaining. Then, he went to the stadium of Estadi Johan Cruyff wearing the club’s shirt and spoke for the first time as a Barça player.

“I’m very happy. I fulfilled my childhood dream. When I was a child I had pictures of Barça in my room, on my bed… I’m fulfilling a dream. I’m going to give everything on and off the pitch to the club that trusted me. I am defender and my idol was Mascherano. He was very tough and mentally strong. I also like Piqué and Araujo”, commented the athlete to the official channel of Barcelona.

Born in Senegal, Mikayil Faye started his career playing for Diambars Football Club. His outstanding performances caught the eye of Croatia’s second division DK Kustosija Zagreb, who signed the defender last winter in February. For the Croatian club, despite his age, he started 11 of the 13 matches he played.
Aiming to develop young players with good potential, Barça saw a market opportunity and bought the Senegalese jewel, which will initially join Barcelona B and may gain a chance in the professional with coach Xavi in the future.
