Čeferin thinks Saudi clubs are wrong to spend money on older players
President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Aleksander Ceferin warned clubs from Saudi Arabia. His words are quoted by the Washington Post.
Čeferin felt that Saudi clubs were wrong to spend money on older stars. In his opinion, they should invest in academies, invite coaches and develop their players. The head of UEFA stressed that he was not afraid of the exodus of players to the country.
Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as France’s Karim Benzema and Ngolo Kante are already playing in the Saudi Arabian championship. Local clubs also offered contracts to Argentinean Lionel Messi and Brazilian Neymar.
On June 3, Ronaldo spoke about the oddities of life in Saudi Arabia. He stated that during Ramadan the team trained even at night, and stressed that this is a new experience for him, a completely new situation and an attempt to learn something from other cultures.
