She conquered the Polish stage and cabaret scene, he was a star of post-war cinema. The marriage of Hanka Bielicka and Jerzy Duszyński lasted 12 years. After the divorce, they became friends, and although the decision was well thought out, the artist regretted to the end that they did not fight for love.

They met in 1936, when she began studying at the acting department of the National Theater Institute. With Jerzy Duszyński, who was two years her junior, she quickly found a thread of understanding. She was attracted to him, but he treated her like a friend because he was in a relationship. – I was his confidante. However, I thought about his words and realized that I was in love with him, but I did not let him know what I felt – in “Women’s World”.

Before they became a couple, he said he would marry her. Love turned into friendship

Before they graduated, Duszyński used to joke that if he was ever dragged to the altar, it would only be because of Hanka. In 1939, they both received diplomas and, like Danuta Szaflarska and Irena Brzezińska, were employed at the Theater in Pohulanka. Just two days before the outbreak of war, all four left Poland. When they reached Vilnius, Szaflarska suggested that Bielicka share a room with Duszyński. – Me: With a man in the room, and in the same bed? Have you gone mad?! Don’t go without getting married! And they thought we were lovers long ago. On July 1, 1940, she got married. Instead of a grand wedding, they had a modest party organized by Hanka Ordonówna at the house of her husband’s family.

They returned to their homeland in early 1945. They lived, among others in Białystok and Łódź, but eventually settled in the capital. he was already a star of post-war cinema at that time, he had roles in Forbidden Songs and Treasure, and Bielicka was just spreading her wings. She began acting in theaters and also appeared on the radio. Numerous professional duties made them pass each other. – We stayed in this failed relationship for so long, maybe out of convenience, maybe out of habit. And so this friendly marriage lasted unnecessarily and for too long, until it became a fiction – she said years later.

She was sorry they divorced. When she wanted to ask him for another chance, he announced that he was getting married

When they began to move away from each other, Duszyński sought solace in the arms of other women. – He wasn’t faithful. When he drank, he liked to go to baby showers – in an interview for “Angora”. When he fell in love with another woman, he decided to divorce. However, it was not him, but Bielicka who submitted the papers to the court. In 1952, they ceased to exist. Years later, the actress confessed that her husband was right to seek excitement outside of the relationship, because she avoided close-ups. “I only existed from the waist up, and down was forbidden territory,” she said. she never had children, she did not feel a vocation to motherhood.

After parting, they remained friends. Bielicka was associated with Jerzy Baranowski for some time. For months he assured her that he would divorce her, and when he finally did, it was for another woman. Bielicka regretted to the end that she had agreed to divorce Duszyński. She even wanted to ask him for another chance, but he had already settled his feelings, got married and welcomed a son into the world. In 1977, after losing consciousness, Duszyński was hospitalized. He found out he had lung cancer. He spent long months in the hospital, and Bielicka never left his side. Jerzy Duszyński died on July 23, 1978, and Hanka Bielicka on March 9, 2006, as a result of complications following an aortic aneurysm operation.
