Islam Makhachev said that the UFC will name his next opponent after July 30
The Russian champion of the Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC) Islam Makhachev spoke about holding a rematch with the Brazilian Charles Oliveira. His words are quoted by Sport24.
Makhachev said that the management of the promotion will announce the name of his next opponent after the duel between Americans Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier on July 30. “If some new name appears on the list of losers, it will be better for me. But everyone will now say – if Oliveira is not installed – that I somehow avoided it. But I don’t choose these fights,” he added.
Makhachev defeated Oliveira on the night of October 23 at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. The Russian defeated his opponent with a choke hold and became the lightweight champion of the organization.
During his career, 31-year-old Makhachev suffered one defeat and won 24 victories (of which 12 in a row). The 33-year-old Oliveira has 34 wins and nine losses. Another fight with his participation was declared invalid.
