Gregg Berhalter has been reappointed head coach of the United States six months after his controversial departure, the U.S. Soccer Federation confirmed on Friday.
Berhalter ended his contract with the Team USA after taking him to the round of 16 of the world Cup in Qatar-2022 and was not renewed amid a fierce public dispute involving the promising player Gio Reyna and his family and an investigation into a case of domestic violence he committed three decades ago.
The US team has carried out a selection process for another coach since the beginning of the year, but, as the digital media The Athletic on Thursday, he ended up choosing to reinstate Berhalter in office for the process towards the 2026 World Cup, which the United States will organize alongside Mexico and Canada.
