Gino Mäder dies a few hours after suffering a serious fall in the Tour of Switzerland

the swiss cyclist Gino Mäder (Bahrain Victorious) passed away this Friday, June 16 as a consequence of the serious injuries suffered in the 5th stage of the Tour of Switzerlandwhen he fell down a ravine, as announced by his team.
Bahrain announced the loss “with deep sadness and heavy hearts” adding that the team “is devastated” and that his “thoughts and prayers are with Gino’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
Mäder’s fatal accident occurred at kilometer 197 of the queen stage of the Tour de Suisse, after the last port of the stage that ended in Le Punt, during the dangerous descent of Albulapass. the swiss cyclist fell down a ravine and was knocked unconscious over the water. The 26-year-old runner was revived on the spot by medical personnel who also performed CPR, before being airlifted to hospital. After spending a few hours in the hospital, could not overcome the serious injuries he sustained.
Mäder was a talented cyclist and at the age of 26 he had in his record a stage win in both the 2021 Giro d’Italia and the 2021 Tour de Suisse. He began his professional career in the Dimension Data in 2018 and in 2021 he signed for Bahrain Victorious. During these last years it has been teammate of the Basques Pello Bilbao and Mikel Landa.
