With the triumph, Xavi’s team remains in seventh place, with 23 points, while Submarino Amarelo parks in 12th place, with 16.
Next Saturday, Barça will face Real Betis, at 12:15 pm (GMT), at Camp Nou. Submarino Amarelo faces Victoria, in the Copa del Rey, this Tuesday, at 15:00.
The game – Barcelona’s first big chance came after just five minutes, with a header by Ezzalzouli, who required a great save from goalkeeper Rulli. A short time later, Gavi landed a kick on the crossbar. Villarreal responded, and Pino headed over the crossbar. At the end of the first half, Danjuma had a great opportunity face to face with Marc ter Stegen, but the German goalkeeper got the better of him.
The visitors returned well for the second half and opened the scoring after just two minutes, with a goal by Frenkie de Jong. Initially, the goal was disallowed for offside, but, after review by the VAR, the goal was validated. At 14, Depay had the opportunity to expand, but his shot stopped at Rulli’s feet.
However, the hosts did not lose heart and sought a draw. At 31, Danjuma played for Chukwueze, who slipped into the back of the net. But Barça was not content with just one point and sought victory. At 42, Depay cleared the mark and scored the culés’ second goal. In stoppage time, Coutinho was knocked down inside the area and the referee signaled a penalty. The Brazilian beat and converted.
