Nice played a lot more with the ball in the first half, but had difficulty finding spaces in the strong defensive system set up by Metz. The visitors bet on the counterattack and the strategy paid off in the 30th minute, when Fabien Centonze opened the scoring.
Even with 76% of ball possession and 16 attempts at kicking in the second stage, Nice failed to reach a draw and were defeated from their stadium.
The teams return to the field for Ligue 1 this Wednesday. At 3 pm (GMT), the Metz receives Montpellier at the Stade Municipal Saint-Symphorien. Nice has the challenge of beating PSG at the Parque dos Príncipes at 17:00.
