The Brazilian player of Zenit Malcom explained why he continued to play in Russia. His words leads UOL.
“I decided to stay because the club, the president and even the owner gave us confidence that if we were affected in any way, we would be given the opportunity to leave,” he said. The football player noted that the special operation affected the players.
On February 24, it became known that Malcolm and another Brazilian football player of Zenit, Claudinho, received Russian citizenship. Former striker of the Russian national team Ari said that athletes were condemned in Brazil when they learned about their decision.
Malcom has been playing for Zenit since 2019. As part of the St. Petersburg team, he became the winner of the Russian Cup and four-time national champion, and also won the Russian Super Cup three times.
Russian clubs have not played in international tournaments since February 2022 due to the sanctions of the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations.
