Defense says Daniel Alves will have to use “mental strength” to overcome denied freedom appeal

After the Justice of Barcelona refuse the last request for freedom made for the defense of Daniel Alves, the player’s lawyer spoke this Tuesday and highlighted the “mental strength” needed to overcome the new rejection of the appeal.

“He is an athlete with a lot of mental strength and I am convinced that he will help him at this moment to manage this evil drink”, declared Daniel Alves’ lawyer, Cristóbal Martell, to the Spanish newspaper ‘La Vanguardia’.

The Court of Barcelona analyzed the new allegations and steps presented by the defense of the Brazilian player and decided to refuse the new request for freedom. In this way, Daniel Alves will remain in preventive detention in Catalonia for the accusation of rape of a young woman in December 2022.

“The evidence of criminality that we consider sufficient to impute the fact to him and as grounds for the precautionary measure remain unaltered”, wrote the magistrates of the Hearing of Barcelona.

Daniel Alves has been in prison since January of this year and changed your defense version a few times when requesting appeals for provisional release. In the last attempt, the player admitted that he had sexual intercourse, but denied a non-consensual criminal rape.
