Lithuania says they welcome ISU decision to extend suspension of Russian skaters
President of the Lithuanian Skating Federation Vytautas Jasutis was pleased with the decision of the International Skating Union (ISU) to extend the suspension of Russian athletes. His words are quoted by Athletistic with reference to 15min.
Yasutis said the ISU voted unanimously against the return of the Russians. He emphasized that the decision was not easy for the organization, as it damages the budget of the organization and the sporting level of individual disciplines.
“One of the strongest countries in this sport has been suspended. But there is no desire to allow them. We very much welcome this decision,” added the representative of Lithuania.
On June 11, the ISU announced that it would uphold the ban on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in competitions under its auspices. The duration of this decision is not called. The organization noted that they would discuss the possibility of implementing the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at tournaments.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in the starts.
